How You Can Smooth the Road to the Hybrid Cloud
Companies interested in a hybrid cloud model have more and more options. In January, Google and VMware announced a partnership to offer hybrid cloud computing. In February, IBM announced plans to move at least half of its cloud development team into its hybrid cloud computing business. Last year, EMC developed its own storage cloud play. In addition, Accenture and Microsoft extended their partnership with the introduction of Accenture Hybrid Cloud Solution for Microsoft Azure. With the plethora of platforms, services and products, however, companies still hit more than a few bumps in the road as they move to adopt this tech strategy.

Infrascale launches integrated backup appliance for cloud
Infrascale today launched the Cloud Backup Accelerator (CBA), an integrated backup appliance for SMBs designed to move data off to a public cloud. Infrascale CEO Ken Shaw describes the CBA as a combination backup, WAN accelerator and cloud gateway device. The appliance stores 4 TB of data locally, and can protect up to 15 TB in Infrascale’s managed cloud or in Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure public clouds.

Infrascale Cloud Backup Accelerator sees the cloud, not the appliance, as the focus
Hybrid cloud backup technology is not new. Vendors in the backup hardware business were quick to take advantage of the information lifecycle approach to backup to make use of the cloud as an additional target for archival storage. Traditionally, the approach taken has been to offer a range of appliances, targeted at different size enterprises, with local capacity sized to meet the customer’s need.

Infrascale announces unique converged backup solution with WAN acceleration
While converged backup is becoming more common, Infrascale’s offering, which includes WAN optimization and a cloud gateway, is unique. You may not be familiar with Infrascale. The company, initially founded in Australia, moved to the U.S. in 2009-2010 and is now based in El Segundo, and they have white labelled much of their North American business to date, so many people use their technology without ever having heard of them. Now, however, the company is hoping to make news which will make them widely known in the industry.
