Research from Infrascale, a cloud-based data protection company providing industry-leading backup and disaster recovery solutions, indicates that the vast majority of small and medium businesses (SMBs) both expect the unexpected and feel that they’re ready for it – though they may not be. Ninety-two percent of SMB executives said they believe their businesses are prepared to recover from a disaster. However, as previously reported, more than a fifth of SMB leaders said they don’t have a data backup or disaster recovery solution in place.

Downtime is a major challenge for small and medium businesses (SMBs) today. The IT systems of nearly a quarter of SMBs have gone offline in the past year, according to new research from Infrascale, a cloud-based data protection company providing industry-leading backup and disaster recovery solutions. SMBs said the downtime creates business disruption and decreases employee productivity. More than a third (37%) of SMBs in the survey group said they have lost customers and 17% have lost revenue due to downtime.

“[It] is surprising how many businesses are unprepared for a ransomware attack. It is shocking that during a time in which the world should be coming together in the fight against COVID-19, criminals are preying on unsuspecting people and organizations for personal – usually financial – gain,” said Russell P. Backup trends include security awareness, cloud protection

According to Infrascale CEO Russell P. Reeder, the threat level has risen. “People are more vulnerable for multiple reasons, specifically for ransomware,” Reeder said. Hackers know people are hungry for coronavirus research, and one bad click could be all it takes to infect a computer with a virus.
